Christmas Scavenger hunt

Published by Christa Taylor at 3:40 pm under Homemaking

My sister, sent me this fun idea to keep Christ in Christmas day celebrations.

One idea we’ve used in our home with extended family who are not believers is a Christmas Scavenger Hunt. I make a list of clues and teams of two or three have to not only answer the question, but find the item in the house somewhere. Some examples of questions: What has wings, but doesn’t build a nest? (Angel) What is crooked and sweet and only available at Christmas? (Candy Cane) What guided three men to a little town? (Star). Everyone gathers with their answers (the first team to finish gets a small prize) and then we tell the meaning behind the symbol and why it is significant to the birth of Christ. Everyone usually enjoys the friendly competition and they also hear about the true meaning of Christmas in a friendly way.

Do you have any fun Christmas traditions that you would like to share?

  1. One tradition I forgot to include, was our family “memory basket”. A special basket filled with small cards and pens is set out about 2 weeks prior to Christmas. Each member of the family then writes down any special/significant memories from the past year.
We then read all the memories Christmas morning. :)

Well, on Christmas Eve, we always wear a new pair of pajamas. My mom did this as a little kid and her grandmother always told her that when you wore new pajamas to bed on Christmas Eve, you’d get whatever you want for Christmas the next morning.
We also always throw cat food on the roof for the reindeer. :D

My family eats a fondue meal on Christmas Eve. It’s a way of getting to chat and spend time together around the table, which gets us closer together. :)

It’s only recent that we actually have spent Christmas morning as a family instead of at someone else’s house– so that’s been a big change. I really like the idea of a scavenger hunt, so we may have to try that!
