Are you Single?

How do I prepare for marriage and at the same time guard my heart?
As women, this is an incredibly difficult task because we were specifically created out of man for man. However, if we trust Jesus, we can trust that He has the best for us – whether that be a life of singleness or marriage. I think it is wise to prepare to be a wife, mother, and homemaker. If we stay single, these skills will serve us and others well – our families, our communities, and any domain that God grants us ministry in. Set your heart before Him, guarding it in purity, but keeping it tender in hope.
Five “Rules” For Women:
Don’t
Assume
Expect
Initiate
Manipulate
(And if it’s from God) Don’t fight
What are some ways I can prepare to be my husband’s helper/completer?

Featured: Is this modest?
Sarah Mae, guest blogger at Is This Modest, just posted an answer to the following question:
“My Husband Wants Me To Look Sexy When We’re Out Together”
While the question is common, what is the answer?
Do we submit to our husband and dress immodestly if he so desires, or do we submit to God?

Date night hair for short locks
Slick Side Part-
Step 1: For a very contemporary look, blow hair straight with a round brush, and straighten with iron as necessary.
Step 2: Make a deep Side part and tuck behind ear.If a more relaxed look is desired, only tuck hair behind one ear.
Step 3: Using a fine-toothed comb, distribute smoothing serum through hair until hair has the wet/sleek look.
Boho Curls:
How to:
Step 1: Curl one-inch sections of hair with a curling iron held vertically all over your head.
Step 2: Because hair will likely look poufy, use bobby pins to pin down areas that look too voluminous to create an overall shape you like.
Step 3: Disguise pins by covering them with other curls.
Step 4: Mist with hairspray to set.
Half-up Bouffant:
How to:
Step 1: Spritz the roots of your hair at the crown with thickening spray for added volume.
Step 2: Divide hair in half horizontally.
Step 3: Use your teasing comb or brush to backcomb the top section of hair. Tease heavily for mega volume.
Step 4: Smooth over the top of the teased section with a brush to hide the backcombing.
Step 5: Pin the sides of your hair back, crisscrossing the bobby pins to anchor them. (See photo A.)

Brothers to the Rescue

“I didn’t need the lid…” Brandon (10) giggled as we sat reclaimed our seats at the cafe table.
“What?” I questioned. We were sitting in our favorite coffee shop, just Brandon and I, sipping tea and steamed milk.
“I didn’t need the lid…” he grinned, flipping the lid onto the table. Just moments before, I had been accosted by a burly stranger while stirring my tea at the beverage bar. Brandon, upon seeing a strange man approach me, sidled up beside me, grabbed a coffee lid, and directed me back to my seat.
“When I saw that guy talking to you, I was afraid he was going to ask you on a date… Continue Reading »

Fashion: Modesty Can Be Fashionable

by Ali Holston
The Student Printz, University of Southern Mississippi, Issue date: 1/22/09 Section: Entertainment
I am often quite disgusted when I see women degrade themselves by wearing clothes that are too small. Specific sizes were designed for specific body types, so is it too much to ask that you stick to what fits best? Trust me, it would look much better. I realize that some think it’s “cute” or “sexy” to wear something super revealing, but really, I do not care to see your excessive amounts of skin hanging over the side of your super tight miniskirt. I don’t want to see your Victoria’s secret panties when you bend over, so please, keep your secret to yourselves.
What ever happened to self-respect? I believe that one can be cute and trendy, while still being modest. It may work for some, but any serious woman who believes that she will find a man while dressing like a 13 year old girl in middle school may be, perhaps, a bit delusional.
As time passes, it seems that being slightly “trashy” has overridden what women should be known for, and that is class. Every woman is beautiful in her own unique way, but that might not matter to a stranger who sees you walking down the street. You could be the sweetest, most sincere person with the biggest heart around; if you are wearing attire that shows a little bit more thigh than it should, that passerby may not gain a very good perspective of you. Ladies, let’s please be classy and respectful of our bodies. Help someone gain a great outlook of who you are by dressing appropriately. I still believe modest is hottest.

How one woman can Make a difference

When I first read this story, nestled in the pages of my copy of Choices, my spirit soared. Mary Farrar relates the story below.
“I grew up on the last street before a garbage ravine where people from other places drove up to dump old refrigerators and mattresses and bodies of dogs and other trash….You can bet that, like most kids in a disintegrating situation, we needed a guardian angel. She came knocking on our back door….I knew right away there was something different about her. It was a look she had when you talked to her that we had hardly ever seen on an adult. She looked like she was actually paying attention.

Bangs or no Bangs?
If you have a wide or sloping forehead, bangs can be a serious asset.
Do:
A good trick is to hold your hair above your eyebrows to see how you will look with bangs.
Try as many bang variations as possible to get a feel of what type of bangs you want to live with.
Look at some pictures and bring in 1-2 to your hair-stylist.
Don’t:
If cutting your own, don’t use cheap paper scissors! Hair sheers are inexpensive and will prevent hair damage from blunt edges.
