Give your Face Winter Warmth
Looking a bit pasty? Me too.
Here’s a few tips on giving your skin a rev-up in Februrary:
- Give your face winter warmth
-
1. Prep. Start with clean, moisturized skin. Using a synthetic foundation brush, sweep foundation on the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin—just where you need to even out your complexion. Blend it over the skin and finish with downward strokes (to flatten the tiny hairs on your cheeks).
2. Conceal. Pat a creamy, yellow-toned concealer under the eyes, being sure to get the inner corners near your nose. Disguise blemishes with a thicker, cakey concealer that matches your skin exactly. And eradicate an oily T-zone with a touch of loose, translucent powder on a large, fluffy brush—just dust it over the center of the forehead, down the nose, and on the chin.
3. Bronze. Swirl a medium-size, fluffy brush in a matte powder bronzer that’s slightly deeper than your skin tone. Tap most of the bronzer off the brush, then lightly skim it across the forehead and cheeks, then down the bridge of the nose.
4. Add blush. Give skin a believably sun-kissed look by applying a rose-tone powder blush to the apples of the cheeks and blending up the cheekbones. Be sure the blush is rosy, or at the very least pink; peach-tone blushes look orange over bronzer.
5. Highlight. With your index finger, sparingly apply an iridescent champagne shade of liquid or cream highlighter to the tops of the cheekbones and the inner corner of each eye.

What does bronzer do?
Bronzer is a warm powder, almost brown, that you dust over your cheekbones and “sun areas” (if you were out in the sun where would you first get red?).
It adds color to the skin.
Ahhh gotcha
Thanks!
Thanks! My parents just got back from Hawaii, and, compared to them, I look very pale and very scary!!
There’s a company that I’ve started using called Joppa Minerals- joppaminerals.com that is FABULOUS! They carry mineral powder foundation, bronzers and lots of other goodies that contain only All-Natural, God given ingredients. Their products do not contain any harmful chemicals or preservatives!
I LOVE make-up and was a little worried that the “powder” wouldn’t cover as well as other products I’ve used in the past, but it has been wonderful! I have truly enjoyed wearing their products- it stays on ALL day and doesn’t even need to be removed at night! I would highly recommend them!
Here’s the link- (sorry!)

Um, I’m rather new to the sphere of makeup and don’t know exactly what you mean by a “synthetic foundation brush”. Do you mean one made out of synthetic materials?
I really do appreciate these makeup tips, though! Not having sisters or a mother that know beans about makeup, I would be lost without your posts!
Hi Alison!
There are 2 kinds of makeup brushes,
Synthetic and Natural bristles. On a silicone brush. the bristles, or the “fluffy” applicator at the end of the brush, are made from man-made materials such as silicone or taklon. On a natural fiber brush they are made from animal hair, such as sable, squirrel or goat.
The synthetic brushes are less expensive and often work just as well as the natural fibers.
Oh! That’s interesting. Are you familiar with Everyday Minerals(I think it’s the brand your older sister uses)? I buy my makeup there and have seen that they have brushes, but I thought they were made out of some kind of natural material… I’ll have to check them out.
Thanks for taking the time to explain the basics- I really appreciate it!
Lindsay and I both use Bare Escentuals, is that what you’re refering to?
They do proffer an excellent line of brushes, I love them.
I use the makeup line Physicians Formula because it’s an all natural based product. I use the organic line and am highly satisfied with their makeup
It’s relatively cheap too-they sell it at Walmart and Target even!
@ Jessica
My mother swears by the PF Organic Wear line. I have also tried it but they don’t sell tones light enough for me, unfortunately. I stick with Neutrogena.
Christa, now I’m confused! I’ve heard of BareMinerals(but don’t use them because of the bismuth oxide they contain) and Everyday Minerals which I do use after reading your sister, Linday’s, recommendation of them on her blog. Bare Escentuals is a new one for me. The world of mineral makeup seems to be expanding!
@ Ali
I’m with you – I don’t get it! Never heard of Bare Escentuals before. I’ll have to look it up.
Okay, I looked it up, and it appears Bare Minerals and Bare Escentuals are one in the same.
But there’s no way I would spend so much on makeup – it costs $60 for a few trial size containers of powder and brushes you could pick up at Walmart!
