Summer Style Tips- by Jonathon Bell

jbell.jpg

Jonathon Bell, friend and fellow entrepreneur, is a man of impeccable taste. When he gives a suggestion- a girl with any style sense definitely listens. But not only is Bell style savvy, he’s modesty savvy.

This is a rare find girls, it is with pleasure that I present two posts by this style giant- admire and enjoy.

Ladies,

Its summer! This is the season of fruition, fulfillment, happiness, and beauty. As you embark on all the wonders and majesty that summer adventure holds in store for you, allow me to offer a little advice on what to adorn yourself with along the way. When contemplating fashion, one must always take two very important factors into account.

1)    Style is more than fashion; Style is you, your personality, your image, and your beliefs. According to John Fairchild, “Style is an expression of individualism mixed with charisma.” I like to put it like this: “The style that you create is the lenses through which the world perceives you.” What you think about you is what the world will see in you.
2)    Fashion must and always will follow style. A simple example that everyone can relate to is a mannequin. When you see a dress on a mannequin in a store window, you try it on before you purchase it. Why? Well, because you want to see how it will fit you, and most importantly, how it will LOOK on you. And we all know that clothes in themselves possess no value. The value is in the wearer of those clothes–you. Whether you’re wearing a $1500 pair of shoes from Dolce and Gabbana  or a $15 pair from Payless, there is no price that can be put on you and the “way” you wear them. Fashion fades, Style is eternal.

Published by Christa Taylor under Modest Fashion

  swiningcatwalk.jpg

We have partnered with 6 different Pure Fashion shows over the past few months spread all across the States. But it’s with even greater pleasure that I announce our next Runway show, right here in Portland.

Here’s an excerpt from the press release:

June 7th, Christa Taylor, of Christa-Taylor.com, joins Larry Peacock of Stumptown Dance to launch First Ever “Swingin’ Catwalk” at the Scottish Rite.

” Vintage Fashion has been popular on Portland streets for decades, and who knows it better than the Swing dance crowd? In 2 weeks, 8 of Portland’s dancers will interrupt the dance night, walking the Red carpet in vintage inspired Fashion designed here in Portland. Once the dancer hits the end of the runway, she’ll join her dance partner to show off their footwork.
“It brings two of Portland’s best flavors together” says Taylor, “People are getting so excited, we’re considering making this a monthly event” she concludes.
30% of any sales from the Christa-Taylor collection go to support orphans and widows in Cambodia.   ”
Any Portlander’s who read the blog- come join us!

Fashion Friday: Periwinkle Cardi

Published by Christa Taylor under Modest Fashion

Light weight knits are perfect for those balmy summer nights, throw it over your swimsuit or a tshirt and capris.

My Style: Transitioning a knit into summer  is always fun because you can style it in unexpected ways. For those of us who don’t live in the extremely hot areas, (aka Texas) knits can be carried through fairly easily. I would pair it with some cute safari style shorts for the cool summer nights, with a solid leather belt and metallic sandals.

Was $35-

now it’s 30% off. one day only.

$25 .

Note: Discount taken after purchase.

Prejean a Pretender?

Published by Christa Taylor under Modesty

prejean

What a controversy was unleashed when Carrie Prejean (Miss California) make her stand for traditional Marriage. The question is- do we want this Christian model to become the spokesperson for traditional marriage?

Nancy Leigh Demoss answered the Prejean controversy with excellence and wisdom, I have included some of her highlights here. For the complete article: Prejeans Story

Carrie has made a strong public profession of her faith in Christ. As Christians, we are called to live as redeemed men and women and to reflect to the world the beauty and holiness of God. I’m not in a position to judge Carrie’s motives or her heart. But while I applaud her courage, I also believe some of her choices and public actions, past and present, are representative of many women who consider themselves Christians, but who lack clear biblical thinking and conviction on such matters as virtue, womanhood, beauty, modesty, and discretion.

Christian Youth Becoming Secular

By and large, young adults who have grown up in our evangelical homes, churches, and schools, are buying into a message that they have seen modeled by those around them who call themselves Christians—namely, that Christianity can be divorced from Christ-likeness, and that practical holiness in everyday life is out-dated, irrelevant, or optional.

We Need Titus 2 Women

Carrie Prejean’s situation highlights the desperate need for Titus 2 “older women”—mothers, youth workers, mentors—to take an active role in the training and discipleship of younger women—teaching them to live out the implications of the gospel in every area of their lives.

Carrie Prejean’s story should cause us to be on our faces crying out to God over the extent to which the church today has accommodated to the world. It should cause us to plead with God on behalf of our children and grandchildren, and then to get up off our knees and go out and engage this younger generation with love and grace and truth and to become agents of redemption in their lives.

Pride in dress: Christa Responds

Published by Christa Taylor under Modesty

pride

I wanted to respond to this, as this is an important issue and one deserving some thought. I desire this blog to be a place where  women can disagree, if necessary, and disagree graciously. I was grateful for this commenter, and I encourage any other young women who have similar questions to bring them up. At 21, I still have a lot to learn and am continually growing in my understanding of modesty and Christian maturity. I will never be above criticism, or need for heart examination. Thank you for your patience and understanding with a fellow sinner.

“I have been reading some of the posts on your blog recently and am quite concerned with the attitude that seems to be displayed. I’m sure you do not mean to come off this way, but much of what I have read gives me the impression that you are not being truly modest at heart. You stress modesty all over your website, but you seem to have missed the point. “Modesty” means humility/not drawing attention to oneself. I do believe just as strongly as you do that part of this humility means a woman should not flaunt her “feminine charms” (if you know what I mean). But modesty does not simply mean covering up. It is an attitude of humility and not thinking too highly of oneself. Continue Reading »
