A funny reminder
Sometimes the Lord has a humorous way of humbling us.
I rolled out of bed Monday morning, hair frizzed out to it’s enth degree, a nice break-out surfacing, lips chapped and bags under my eyes. I should have entered a “witch look-alike contest”, winning would have been a cinch. I never look great on Monday mornings, but this was definitely worse than usual.
Kelly, living proof that dinosaurs once roamed the earth, and looking equally unattractive suggests that we visit our Starbucks drive-through.
Decked in PJs, a hoody and my glasses, I raced to grab shot-gun so Kelly (aka Bell) would have to face the teller. Laughing on our way, we prayed that the teller would be female so as to prevent further embarassment.
If we only knew.
We sped through the drive-through, grabbed our drinks from the LADY teller, and headed home. Still joking about how bad we look, we pull into our driveway to see the familiar truck of our Dad’s old friend.
Kelly: “Oh no, Mr. Garfield’s here!”
Christa: “Oh dang, well…at least it’s just Mr. Garfield, I mean at least there are no single guys here…”
But instead of Mr. Garfield, one of the young married guys popped his head from behind the truck bed. Still in the car we started to panic,
Kelly: “Oh NO, it’s JOE! What do we do?!”
Christa: “let’s ease out real quiet and race inside…”
But our humiliation didn’t stop there, horror of horrors- from the other side of the truck another head appeared. None other than Will, the studly single guy who all the girls liked!
Panic had officially set in.
Christa: (laughing at the irony) “OH NO! It’s WILL! We look awful!!
We get out of the car as the guys approach, “What do we have here?” written on their glib faces.
Kelly wizzes inside leaving me to brave it alone.
Christa: “Uh hi guys” waving with a gulp. Hardly dressed for a prolonged chat I escape as soon as possible and burst out laughing as soon as Bell and I are in the safety of our own room.
We had such fun relating the story to our parents later that evening. ::chuckle:: I don’t think I’ll live this one down.
Lesson learned:
Laugh at yourself frequently, vanity is too unrealistic to stick around for long.
Note: For any of you girls who know the individuals involved, please …keep it to yourself. ; )

No Detours to the aisle!

Mason walked into our end of the year party decked to the hilt, confident, poised with a smile that said she was used to getting her way. As the girlfriend of one my Dad’s supervisors, she was invited with her boyfriend to join the festivities.
As the night wore on, my mom sat down and opened up small talk, asking where she worked, how she met this guy. Mason was going for her associates degree, met her boyfriend at a bar and moved in with him a few months later.
Finally my mom asked,
“Don’t you ever want to get married and be a mom?” Her face fell, and she seemed to shrink in size, “yes…yes, that’s what I really want. But I don’t want my boyfriend to feel like I’m pushing him”, she confessed, lip trembling.
I’m sitting there, thinking “Woah! Miss confident really just wants to get married? I got news for you hon, sleeping with your boyfriend isn’t the way to get there!”
Why is it that girls today think their boyfriends will marry them if they move in? Where did that come from? As Rock Hudson once said in the 50s
“Love is one product you don’t sell by giving away free samples.”
I feel sorry for these girls who 1) are embarrassed to admit they want to get married and 2) think they have to sleep together to keep his interest!
The hook-up, shack-up, break-up routine just doesn’t cut it.
As ETs, we have the privilege of showing other young women there is a better way. There is more to live for, the traditional model is the best model.
Agree, disagree?

How To Make Your Hair Grow Faster!
Number one myth about hair: Trimming it will make it grow faster!
This is not only false its crazy! Your hair is dead the second it grows out of your scalp! So no matter what you do to it on the outside, it will not effect whats going on at the root!
I tell you honestly and truthfully that the only thing that helps your hair grow faster is all internal!
So you want to make your hair grow faster?
you are still in control and you don’t have to cut it! i have one simple word for you….
PROTEIN !!!!!
Eat it, drink it, bathe in it, breathe it, however you must get it in your body! : )
If your body is not healthy then neither is your hair! Unhealthy hair means slow growth….and that’s it!
Protein Suggestions:
Eggs, Meat, Beans, Greens, Protein bars/shakes…..just make sure you’re getting ALL your vitamins!
Remember and spread the word!!
Although trimming your hair may help it appear healthier as it grows,
it WILL NOT MAKE IT GROW!!!
hahahaha what a break through
~Maresah~
p.s. Prenatal vitamins work wonders!!

How To Get a Cleaner Shave!
Here are some very simple things to do to help you get a cleaner, longer lasting shave and better looking skin!
Exfoliate before you shave!: this will help clear dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, and in turn, cause more of the hair to be exposed, providing a cleaner and closer surface for shaving.
What to use: Kosher salt! It dissolves easily and is not as abrasive as Sea Salt….although sea salt works fine: ) also raw sugar works well. Sea salt and raw sugar are larger crystals, therefore, those with sensitive skin should be careful not to apply too roughly.
How to use it!: Mix any one of these with a dash of olive oil to make the application a bit easier and to help soften the hair and add moisture to the skin!
Just put a scoop of the mixture in your hands and work the whole area to be shaved in long circular motions. Rinse with warm water and proceed with your soap of choice and shave! (many times, the oil left behind from exfoliating will be enough for me to shave, although you really have to make sure you clean your razor well!)
Use a SHARP blade!: I know we are all trying to save even down to the smallest thing like our razors, but really? I have to say I’m quite fed up with razor burn and ingrown hairs because I’m skimping where i could be potentially saving!
1) Your blade will last longer if you properly prepare your skin to be shaved as it will not have to fight hard hairs and dead skin (causing unnecessary buildup and dulling of the blade).
2) It will also last longer if you clean and store it properly! (make sure your razor is dry and free of debris before you put it away. If you leave it in the shower, then try to get a wall razor hanger or just be sure to put the guard back on it before placing it on the shelf.)
Post Care: After shaving, towel dry and either apply a small amount of oil or a lotion (remember to refrain from lotions with mineral oil as this ingredient clogs pores).
It is so important to moisturize after shaving or even showering for that matter!..i mean we go through such lengths to make sure our faces stay clean and moisturized to reduce lines, remove dead skin cells, and grimy buildup so we don’t break out….Well same goes for the rest of the body ladies!!
I’ll leave you with that……Good luck with your next shave!
~maresah~
ps. This simple mixture of salt/sugar and oil is a great way to exfoliate the whole body! It is not only cheap, but easily done in the shower or during a nice soak in the tub : )

Leah’s story

Leah was the girl nobody wanted.
Not by her father Laben, and not by her husband Jacob.
The Genesis story tells us what happens,
“When the LORD saw that Leah was not loved, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. 32 Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, “It is because the LORD has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.” She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Because the LORD heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon. Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi. She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” So she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.
We pity Leah as she names her sons to mark her misery. Leah, desperate for love, is trying to find happiness “through traditional family values”. Sons will make her husband love her right? It wasn’t working.
Every time we put our hopes in something other than God, at the end of the day, we will distort our lives, and wake up disappointed and despairing.
Nothing can make us happy except the one person that was meant to. Everything and everyone else, marriage, intimacy, success, beauty, power, will be empty promises.
But you know what’s beautiful about Leah’s story?
She hits a breakthrough in the last verse- “She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” So she named him Judah” There is a note of defiance here, she’s declaring- “Enough trying to use children to gain love and happiness, I’m going to serve God first!”
Tim Keller writes, “It appears that finally, she had taken her heart’s deepest hopes off of her husband and her children, and had put them on the Lord. Jacob and Laban had stolen Leah’s life, but when she gave her heart finally to the Lord, she got her life back”
That’s not the end of the story. God in his kindness, takes the girl who is unloved, and gives her a special gift. Judah.
And from Judah, we are told, the true King, the Messiah will come.
“Salvation came into the world, not through beautiful Rachel, but through the unwanted one, the unloved one…the text says that when the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he loved her…”I am the real bridegroom. I am the husband of the husbandless.”
This is the God who saves by grace, and the only God worth living for.
