If you’re the type who go up and talk to strangers, we could be good friends.
I was sitting at Union Station, Portland, on a sweet vintage looking bench and this powder blue Volvo drives up. No joke, this gentlemen debarks, casually leaning on his bumper reading the morning paper. I was smitten.
I really tried to hold back. Truly. “Christa, do NOT go up and ask him about his car…Christa, sit down…” Yea, so that didn’t last long. Bob and his newspaper soon became new friends and his family car, which I nicknamed George was scheduled for this shoot.
I won’t forget, right before the shoot, the light spilling through the window, haloing Bob and Roni enjoying a glass of lemonade on the top floor of Salty’s restaurant. I just stood watching them from the top step for a minute- they were so comfortable together. I’m not dating, I’m not looking – but I hope my future relationship has that air of quiet rest.
Bob and Roni, thank you for sharing your family’s car, it’s memories, and letting me witness the sweet, loving reassurance of a faithful marriage. You inspired me.
Looking forward to working with UNVEILED was like looking forward to Christmas. Dorene truly gave me wings, I can remember two or three conversations where she specifically took time and energy to encourage and inspire me. I wish you could know her. I would dream about poses, the styling, props and makeup. It came to fruition August 5th and you can see a few of the results below.
Funnies:
My noble and loyal reflector holder- Gabe Aguayo had to keep running after the billowing sheets. It was much more windy than you can see here. All would be peaceful, then *BAM*, the reflector would flip and you’d hear a muffled voice under the reflector “I’m all right…I got it”

Christa-Taylor Featured in the Portland NEATSHEET –
Meet Christa Taylor, designer of modest, vintage-inspired classics you can find in select local shops and online at Christa-Taylor.com. We love her collections for their playful nod to retro glamour (can you even look at her new Jan Sweater Dress above and not think of the Mad Men’s sexy secretary, Joan?), and for extreme wearability. Taylor’s designs are simple and straightforward, and still always manage that perfect balance between fresh/flirty and practical/comfy.
Miss Jan Morrow is a sophisticated interior designer in the 1950s film “Pillow Talk” (Doris Day/Rock Hudson). While the movie is vintage favorite, forever enshrined in my memory is one particular gown Jan models for a dinner party. That white dress stuck with me and inspired the cotton day-version you see in our Spring collection. It was only fitting that I name the sweater dress after this symbol of feminine beauty and grace.
I really wanted to create a dress that you could grab from your closet, throw on, and forget about special underwear or restricting movement. This dress is that simple.
