Rachel from A la’ Modest rocked her response to Relevent Magazine.

I found this quote particularly poignant:

To be honest, I think that it is honorable for a man to gather up the courage to tell another woman that she is causing him to lust. It is harder for a man to be this vulnerable and honest about his own weakness than for him to just ignore it or enjoy and indulge in the object of his lust. As with insanity, the first step to healing lust is admittance to or repentance from his own weakness. I believe it should be okay for a man to approach a woman with sincerity and admit that his weakness is being captive to the lust caused by the way she dresses. This to me is a cry for help from a brother we must embrace rather than a judgmental fool who needs to be slapped because of his pointing finger.

What has CT been up to?

Published by Christa Taylor under ET's in Real Life

I love Summer, and because Portland summers are absolutley ideal, usually I”m outside on our pool deck basking in the sun. When it’s “sit at the computer and blog” or “sit on the deck and sunbathe” you can guess who you usually wins!

Life is beautiful. truly. But the sun’s in my eyes. (cue glamorous sun hat)

And it’s time for an update, and because I’m one of those “ditch all the extraneous details” kind of person- you get bullet points.

Over the last 2 months Christa:

- Turned 23 and loving it

-upgraded to the Nikon D700 – she is now totally legit.

-Downloaded the latest version of Lightroom and had a revelation. Photo editing software is like her bedroom, it’s hard to keep organized.

-graduated to her next Krav Maga belt, and chipped a tooth and fainted in the process.

-Had her photos taken for a new blog header (drum roll please) after Sarah Harris gave her a kick in the pants for having such an out-dated banner (true friends do these things).

-Became an Aunty again!

- Read a lot of books, her favorite of which is Scaramouche, by Rafael Sabattini

-saw her sister off to London and misses her every stinkin’ day.

-edited over 3,000 photos.

What about you guys? Summer going well?

Meet an ET: Model Mary Hellman

Published by Christa Taylor under ET's in Real Life

Can you be a model and still have convictions?

Mary Hellman  proves that you can.

At 5′4″ she stood 2″ shorter than me, but she soon stood much taller in my mind.

We went through the shoot, chatting about our similar convictions about dating, marriage and self-respect. Coming from a Jewish background, Mary has a strong core in her religious faith which impacts her daily decisions. I respect this woman, and appreciate her honesty and transparency.

But I’ll let her speak for herself.

CT: As a model, how do you protect your convictions in an industry that promotes a “show your goods” mentality?

I protect my convictions by never wavering. Continue Reading »

“I haven’t met you yet…”

Published by Christa Taylor under ET's in Real Life

By author Stacy McDonald

I was having a conversation this morning with my daughters (and our friend, Melinda) over the lyrics to the song, “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble. I listened to the song and noticed how the happy-go-lucky melody would attract young people.

But I’d like to challenge you to think critically before accidentally absorbing the philosophies of the world. Imagine if someone from the dregs of society approached you and said, “Repeat after me.” What would you do? Would you blindly repeat whatever they said; or would you analyze the words first, making sure you agree with the message before you ever repeated it? Continue Reading »

Meet an unlikely ET: Tebow

Published by Christa Taylor under ET's in Real Life

Sally Jenkins of the Washington Post shares some provoking insights on one of the upcoming Super Bowl ads featuring Tim Tebow’s Pro-life message.

I’m pro-choice, and Tebow clearly is not. But based on what I’ve heard in the past week, I’ll take his side against the group-think, elitism and condescension of the “National Organization of Fewer and Fewer Women All The Time.” For one thing, Tebow seems smarter than they do.

Tebow’s 30-second ad hasn’t even run yet, but it already has provoked “The National Organization for Women Who Only Think Like Us” to reveal something important about themselves: They aren’t actually “pro-choice” so much as they are pro-abortion. Pam Tebow has a genuine pro-choice story to tell. She got pregnant in 1987, post-Roe v. Wade, and while on a Christian mission in the Philippines, she contracted a tropical ailment. Doctors advised her the pregnancy could be dangerous, but she exercised her freedom of choice and now, 20-some years later, the outcome of that choice is her beauteous Heisman Trophy winner son, a chaste, proselytizing evangelical.

Pam Tebow and her son feel good enough about that choice to want to tell people about it. Only, NOW says they shouldn’t be allowed to. Apparently NOW feels this commercial is an inappropriate message for America to see for 30 seconds, but women in bikinis selling beer is the right one. I would like to meet the genius at NOW who made that decision. On second thought, no, I wouldn’t.

…..

You know what we really need more of? Famous guys who aren’t embarrassed to practice sexual restraint, and to say it out loud. If we had more of those, women might have fewer abortions. See, the best way to deal with unwanted pregnancy is to not get the sperm in the egg and the egg implanted to begin with, and that is an issue for men, too — and they should step up to that.

….
Tebow’s ad, by the way, never mentions abortion; like the player himself, it’s apparently soft-spoken. It simply has the theme “Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life.” This is what NOW has labeled “extraordinarily offensive and demeaning.” But if there is any demeaning here, it’s coming from NOW, via the suggestion that these aren’t real questions, and that we as a Super Bowl audience are too stupid or too disinterested to handle them on game day.

Submit Your Ideas

Published by Christa Taylor under ET's in Real Life

Our ET blog graphics need an update, so we have a photo shoot scheduled for yours truly next week. With all the scheduling, I haven’t had time to brainstorm for some photo shoot ideas….

The theme of the shoot is “going against the flow” – pictures for the blog banner (the graphic at the top of the page), future posts, and misc media.

Any ideas on how to capture our theme on camera?

I asked a model for advice…

shannon

You may be thinking, “Is that such a good idea?”

But Shannon Stewart is no ordinary model, an ET to the core, she has made a public declaration, in the face of television, pageant, and public pressure, that she will not compromise her convictions.

This is a girl worth listening to.

Shannon Stewart competed on the first season of “America’s Next Top Model”. But, in the semi-finals during a nude photoshoot in Paris, Shannon and fellow contestant Robin Manning caused controversy when they refused to take part in the photoshoot because of their Christian convictions.
