Bringing Spring In

Bring in some of your spring dresses, while still staying warm. No one wants to wear black for the next 3 months anyhoo ;)

springdresses.jpg

Do:

- play with textures.Don’t have any different fabrics in your closet? Keep your eyes open at the next sales- think as a stylist, not as a “one piece by itself- er”.

- Mix your leathers. Black boots- camel bag. You can do it!

Don’t:

-Be afraid of color, a pop of bright cheery color banishes all winter drabs and will instantly make you feel chipper. Or at least, we hope so.

-mix more than 2 brights. You’ll be a walking kaleidoscope.

Should Susan be Sexy?

susan.jpg

It was a drop-jaw moment. The 47 year-old spinster from Scotland, the perfect description of your “Irish Washerwoman”, the unlikeliest of candidates, – she shocked the world.

40 million youtube hits later, Susan Boyle is the latest musical phenomenon. (Haven’t seen it? Click here)

But will this late-blooming nightengale survive? The Beauty sector joined hands with the mass media to “encourage” Boyle to go for a complete beauty makeover, plastic surgery and all.

Hannah Farver (Beauty From the Heart) and I hit the streets, curious to hear the public’s reaction to plastic surgery and the pressure to be beautiful.

Chuckle along with us, as you meet some of Portland’s most colorful pedestrians.

Behind the Seams: Introducing Sabrina

Published by Christa Taylor under Fashion update

sabrina3.jpg  When we first envisioned creating our own vintage inspired “Black dress” we knew we wanted to pay tribute to that timeless beauty- Audrey Hepburn. When we saw “Funny Face” the pieces fell in place- “Think Pink”,one of my all-time favorite songs from the legendary film gave us the pink accents and the actual dress shape came straight out of “Sabrina”.This dress is utterly AudreyWho can resist that vintage charm?

Think Pink

Think pink! think pink! when you shop for summer clothes.Think pink! think pink! if you want that quel-que chose.Red is dead, blue is through,Green’s obscene, brown’s taboo. And there is not the slightest excuse for plum or puce—or chartreuse.

—for bags! pink for shoes!Razzle, dazzle and spread the news! And pink’s for the lady with joie de vive!Pinks for all the family.Try pink shampoo.Pink toothpaste too.Play in pink, all day in pink,Pretty gayin pink.Drive in pink, come alive in pink,Have a dive in pink.Go out dancing but just remember one thing:You can get a little winkIf you got a little pinkIn your swing.

I can’t resist adding a few of my favorite lines from the Sabrina film:

David Larrabee: What makes you so sure Sabrina still wants me?

Linus Larrabee: Of course she wants you. She’s wanted you all her life!David Larrabee: Until you came along in that silly homburg. [homburg is his signature hat]

Linus Larrabee: Why don’t you straighten that silly straw hat and on your way. You’ll miss the boat.

.David Larrabee: Don’t worry. I won’t miss the boat.

David Larrabee: Funniest thing. Linus Larrabee, the man who doesn’t burn, doesn’t scorch, doesn’t melt… suddenly throws a twenty million dollar deal out the window.[stops at the door]

David Larrabee: Are you sure you don’t want to go with her?

Linus Larrabee: Why should I want to go with her?

David Larrabee: Because you’re in love with her.

Spring Trends: Suiting

Published by Christa Taylor under Fashion update

 suiting.jpg

It’s airy, it’s light in color and very tailored.

Streamlined suiting pieces, like pencil skirts, trousers and blazers are making an appearance in the freshest whites, pale blues and taupes. Everything from Seersucker to linen is showing up. :)

Easy to mix and match they invite spring with their crisp fabrication.

Do:

pair your suiting with a slung-on leather bag.

Try using a men’s tie as a belt, or even (surprise, surprise) around your neck!

Sport a classic leather banded men’s wrist watch.

Have fun with pale, nude colored pumps. (these are on my list)

Don’t:

Wear pastels if they make you look washed out. Opt for a crisp white instead. If you look better in ivory, choose that over pure white.

C-T featured with Isaac Mizrahi

stardust.jpg

It was a surprise, but a good one ;)

Isaac Mizrahi obviously stumbled across something he liked when he featured our Stardust Dress in his book, How to Have Style. Page 87, and voila!

There we are.

He also provides some stylistic ways to dress up denim whether it is dress or skirt: Try fur, glittery or metallic jackets, eye-catching belts, a jazzy clutch or handbag, glamorous shades, or bejeweled flats. Above all, get creative! There are all sorts of ways you can bring up denim from great to fabulous.
