Five Fall Fashion Trends

Published by Christa Taylor under Fashion update

Neutral Outerwear
Talk about fashion and function, the neutral colored coat is all over the fall fashion scene this season! So whether you opt for a trench or a tunic, this look is great for the cool temperatures that come along with the shifting seasons, plus, it goes well with nearly every color! Pair it with jeans for a daytime look, or rock it with a nice dress for a more formal evening on the town. Probably the most versatile trend of the time, this piece of outerwear is well worth the investment.

Military Inspired Accents
Bold Buttons, chunky hardware and structured sleeves are all the rage for this pending season. These funky accents put a great twist on many of the timeless fall fashions. Mix and match military accents with softer and more romantic pieces for an edgy urban look.

Fur
Whether you opt for faux or the real deal, fur is the latest and greatest this season. Feeling bold? Try this look out as a vest. Want something a little more subdued? Add subtle hints of this look by piling on a scarf or a coat with fur accents. Either way, you will stay warm and fashion-forward.

Boots with Hardware
This season’s footwear is all about trading high-highs, for low-lows, which is great for the trendiest on-the-go Portland chick. You can look fashionable, without risking injury, in this season’s clunky boots. Think you’re ready to step into a pair of your own?
Patterned Tights

A great way to lengthen the life of your summer wardrobe is to mix your looks with some cooler weather accessories. You can still work your favorite pair of shorts and even a trendy dress by pairing them with a pair of tights. You can personalize this trend by dressing for your taste. Whether you like a classic monotone, a vibrant color or a unique pattern this trend is easy to make your own, not to mention affordable!

Modest Fashion: One NY designer

Eva Khurshid New York is the first fashion line formed to address the wants and needs of the contemporary woman. The brand promotes an avant-garde approach to fashion with the purpose of empowering women. This concept lies at the heart of the brand, for it fills the fashion void that co-founders Fatima Monkush and Nyla Hashmi discovered– the lack of clothing that exudes charm and conviction while leaving some things to the imagination.

The Eva Khurshid woman is bold yet sophisticated. She compliments her confident personality with effortlessly alluring attire. Her poise is captivating while her wardrobe appears refined and pronounced. She does not announce her presence, yet her aura naturally draws in admirers. This woman challenges existing definitions of “sexy” by redefining it for herself.

The brand provides the Eva Khurshid woman with the ability to control what she represents. Her look is ‘sexy rediscovered.’ Eva Khurshid brings to life the design-duo’s vision of giving women options. It presents pieces that flawlessly come together, easily adapting from day to evening for different occasions.

Sounds very Familiar. Girls- take note- empowered …. so empowered. lol.

Summer Accessorizing

Published by Christa Taylor under Fashion update

Summer 2010  accessory styles

In case you didn’t know… the top design trends for this spring and summer are fun and funky. Surface textures, out-of-context pieces and futuristic design are all elements.

TEXTURE
Add texture to totes and shoulder bags with pleating and folding techniques. The deflated aspect is reminiscent of sculptors’ masterpieces. Use the supplest leathers for soft, buttery bags. Sizes are roomy for practicality, while gathered details create elegant folds and volume.

ECCENTRIC
Create waist emphasis with printed fabric belts. Reference Japanese obis for construction, using multi-colored prints in vivid hues of coral, sand, purple and blue.

Exude quirky charm with retro hats and headscarves. Frivolous cocktail hats, sculptural headpieces and printed silk scarves create a new focal point for accessories.

HARD EDGES
Strong characters sport fingerless gloves as a new summer accessory. Think boxing hand wraps for unusual construction in leather and moulded plastic materials.

Wide shapes continue for frames in both wraparound and angular sunglasses styles. A hard sharp edge adds a fresh futuristic approach to black shades.

BOLD IMPACT
Create a distinct focal point with large statement neckpieces. Boldly sized pendants are clustered on mixed material chains of wood, metal and enamel. Unexpected shape and size combinations create a surreal effect.

Look to African influences for stacked chunky bracelets. Sizes are exaggerated in rich hues of fig and forest greens with shots of bright yellow and lime. Using wood and woven straw with handcrafted finishes enhances the authentic feel.

FUTURISTIC
Use complex engineering for stark shapes. Sculpted heels look to architecture for new construction ideas while multiple crossover straps aim to be both decorative and supportive.

Strapped heels appear in a curious blend of retro and futuristic styles. Chunky heels and dainty straps contrast strikingly. Perspex and plastic closures are transparent, creating a walking-on-air effect.

Bringing Spring In

Bring in some of your spring dresses, while still staying warm. No one wants to wear black for the next 3 months anyhoo ;)

springdresses.jpg

Do:

- play with textures.Don’t have any different fabrics in your closet? Keep your eyes open at the next sales- think as a stylist, not as a “one piece by itself- er”.

- Mix your leathers. Black boots- camel bag. You can do it!

Don’t:

-Be afraid of color, a pop of bright cheery color banishes all winter drabs and will instantly make you feel chipper. Or at least, we hope so.

-mix more than 2 brights. You’ll be a walking kaleidoscope.
