Jeans- but done quite well

I like this look, but I don’t think I could pull it off. My hourglass curves don’t like skinnies too much.

Should Susan Boyle be sexy?

Published by Christa Taylor under Fashion News/Trends

It was a drop-jaw moment. The 47 year-old spinster from Scotland, the perfect description of your “Irish Washerwoman”, the unlikeliest of candidates, – she shocked the world.

40 million youtube hits later, Susan Boyle is the latest musical phenomenon. (Haven’t seen it? Click here)

But will this late-blooming nightengale survive? The Beauty sector joined hands with the mass media to “encourage” Boyle to go for a complete beauty makeover, plastic surgery and all.

Hannah Farver (Beauty From the Heart)  and I hit the streets, curious to hear the public’s reaction to plastic surgery and the pressure to be beautiful.

Chuckle along with us, as you meet some of Portland’s most colorful pedestrians.

Modesty making Headlines

myleycyrus

“Tween style is taking a modest turn”  says Caroline Ryder, of the LA Times. (April 5, 2009)

“Off-screen and in the real world, the “tame tween” phenomenon is already making itself felt, with both retailers and trend researchers noticing a general shift away from the edgy. Continue Reading »

Modest fashion in the News

mileycyrus

According to Caroline Rider at the LA Times, (April 5, 2009) modesty is making a comeback, starting with tween star, Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana)

Forget Britney-era bling ‘n’ bras or clingy American Apparel spandex — 16-year-old “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus wasn’t even allowed to wear leggings while the cameras were rolling. Spaghetti straps were verboten, Continue Reading »

Modesty in the News

The Huntsville Times, Friday, February 20, 2009

Ace McKay, morning show co-host at STAR 88.3,

As the daddy of two beautiful daughters, I’m constantly aware of cultural assaults on their self image. So I love it when something as powerful as the Secret Keeper Girl Tour Conference comes along to impact them positively.

We can blame the media, movies and TV shows that give little girls false perceptions of how they should look, act and talk. But better than blaming, parents can use a resource like this to open a conversation with daughters about the biblical view of how they should see themselves…

I know the relationship I have, not just with my daughters but also with their mom, shows them how love and relationships work. As we attempt to raise them God’s way, I am constantly enforcing a positive light on who they are as children of God while educating them at the right times about boys and what can happen if they are not on guard. Each day, I tell the girls, “I love you, I will always love you. Nothing will ever change that, and you will always be beautiful.”

What makes the Secret Keeper Girl Tour special is that it helps to deepen the relationship between mothers and daughters. The event is filled with fun, music and modesty that girls of all ages can walk away with, their heads held high and carrying their own plans for how to remain pure till marriage with God and Mom’s help.

Dannah Gresh has been speaking to the fashion industry for the past several years about the marketing of sensual clothing to tweens. She plans to present a petition to the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the Apparel and Footwear Manufacturer’s Association for them to change their guidelines. She’s created “The Bod Squad” and hopes to have 50,000 signatures by the year’s end to show the support for this creed.

Kelly and I just returned from a day trip to the MAGIC show in Vegas.

Let’s make something clear right now. I detest Vegas, (at least what I’ve seen of the strip) Continue Reading »

Check out the C-T fashion blog for how you can secure your own subscription of ELIZA magazine. ELIZA was launched just a little over 2 years ago for women who desire modest fashion.

Summer Bellessa, editor and co-founder is a friend and I would highly recommend the magazine.

Modest Bridal: Merging Modest with chic

modestbridal

|The (Hackensack, N.J.) Record

Wedding-trends experts say they are seeing a growing demand for a fashion category called “modest bride” as the number of Orthodox Jewish, conservative and evangelical Christian, and Islamic brides-to-be increases.

“I know there’s a niche here, and I’m going after it,” Continue Reading »

Spring Trends

eliza

by Eliza Magazine Editor-in-Chief Summer Bellessa

Spring is the season for budding flowers,  Easter Egg Hunts, and a fresh start. The fashion tends to always get a bit brighter and lighter.  Here are four of my favorite runway trends: florals, geometric patterns, sheer fabrics and nude hues. Be inspired by the high-fashion looks and interpret them in your own unique way.

Last year’s florals (1), (2) are still fresh,

C-T and Isaac Mizrahi

While waiting in a bookstore, I haphazardly picked up a book off the table. Thumbing through it’s pages, I nearly choked when I saw one of our dresses featured inside. Designer Isaac Mizrahi obviously stumbled across something he liked when he used our Stardust Dress in his book,
How to Have Style
(2008, pg 87)
