Look of the Day: Sally Jane vintage

Published by Christa Taylor under Personal Style

Imagine this 3 or 4″ longer and I’m totally in love.
Do:
-Wear quirky boots or otherwise statement shoes. How much fun is that?
-Pair your sweet vintage frock with a tough canvas jacket. Clash is all the rage, “it doesn’t match it goes”.
-Try a side braid with this look, I think it would be darling.
Don’t:
- go overly sweet with your vintage apparel. If there are too many vintage elements it looks like a vintage costume, and people will be looking around for the film crew.
- be afraid to add some chunky jewelry to this look. Even a wispy necklace would be a nice addition.
-wear high boots if you are 5′4″ or under. Your legs will be dwarfed, making you look like a dwarf. Which is generally to be avoided.

Look of the day: Fall is coming

Published by Christa Taylor under Personal Style

Once again, kudos to Urban Weeds for making this photo available. (She rocks- check out her blog HERE)

The element in this outfit that really makes is snappy is that darling yellow skirt. The same effect could be created with any brightly colored skirt, but mustard is a particular favorite of mine.

Girls Only: What do I Wear to Bed?

Why is it that we can wear beautiful dresses, skirts, high heels and the loveliest of jewels during the day, but end up sagging into threadbare flannels and ratty tshirts at night? You’d think our sheets would start to yammer in protest!

My goal for this year? Rehabilitate my sleepware wardrobe. Yes, that’s right. My PJs need CPR.

As you all know, I love vintage. And I don’t see why we should settle for brothers boxers when our fore-mothers shimmered to bed in darling babydoll sets!

But then, I started to feel guilty, “Is it ok for single girls to have pretty pajammas? Is it wrong to have a silk robe instead of the fleece sleeping bag that I hitch around my waist with a bungy chord?

Here’s my philsophy, and please do comment:

1. We must inculcate Good habits. It is unhelpful to wear sloppy nighties for 20 odd years and suddenly be expected to revolutionize our thinking once we’re married.

2. Wearing lovely Things makes me feel lovely. Even noticed how those cranky ladies in the movies are never shown wearing lovely nightgowns? I’m sure if they spruced up their negligees they would feel more chipper. God made us women, we should go to bed looking like one.

3. Must be practical. This is where I insert the “let me clarify” statement. I do not walk around my home in lingerie for all my brothers to see. Naturally, we are sensible about these things.

Here’s to a new face on sleepwear. Maybe I’ll design my own. :)

Fashion Spring Clean

Published by Christa Taylor under Personal Style

Spring is upon us and so is spring cleaning! But what about your closet? What do you need to finally let go of? What should you keep?

Here are a few tips from “Adam Glassman’s Closet Cleanout Tips”

Rule 1: If you haven’t worn something for over two years, get rid of it. “Even if it’s pricey,” Adam says. “Give it to a friend who will make good use of it. Sell it, donate it, put it on eBay.”

Rule 2: If it doesn’t fit you anymore, get rid of it. “Hang it up on the door and call it closet art if you want that for inspiration,” he says. “But truthfully, by the time someone gets back into a size, it may be out of style.”

Rule 3: Don’t fantasy dress. Oprah says she bought a lot of purses she thought would be perfect for a lady who lunches, but she never had time to go to lunch. If an item fits the lifestyle you want but not the lifestyle you live, get rid of it.

Rule 4: Everything in your closet should promote joy, beauty and usefulness. “You should feel pretty in it, and you should be comfortable in it,” Adam says. “And it should be really practical.”

Rule 5: If something brings up a bad memory or has a negative energy around it, purge it. You’ll never want to wear something that reminds you of a bad time, but donate it and hope somebody else can enjoy it.

Rule 6: Get rid of duplicates. If you have a ton a of things that look the same, streamline.

Jeans- but done quite well

I like this look, but I don’t think I could pull it off. My hourglass curves don’t like skinnies too much.
