I enjoy the classic Mad Men look, though I  would go with a neutral or light brown lipstick for Fall.

• It’s a just a matter of pinning up those long tresses in easy rolls to the side of your head.
• Criss cross your bobby pins for stability.
• Keep it messy and releaxed for day wear, spritz on some finishing spray to smooth out the locks before pinning for an evening feel.

There’s been a lot of talk lately about teens and tweens being bombarded with increasingly graphic sexual images at younger and younger ages, and how that’s affecting their worldview—see 11-year old Jessi Slaughter, thongs for 12-year olds, and, uh, Gossip Girl, esp. Taylor Momsen. Sometimes we’ll walk past the junior’s department and wonder where kids shop if they don’t want midriff-bearing, low-cut, skin-tight tops, dresses, and pants.

What do you think about this company concept? Would a company marketing itself as intentionally “modest” stop you from ordering from them?

I found this quote particularly poignant:

To be honest, I think that it is honorable for a man to gather up the courage to tell another woman that she is causing him to lust. It is harder for a man to be this vulnerable and honest about his own weakness than for him to just ignore it or enjoy and indulge in the object of his lust. As with insanity, the first step to healing lust is admittance to or repentance from his own weakness. I believe it should be okay for a man to approach a woman with sincerity and admit that his weakness is being captive to the lust caused by the way she dresses. This to me is a cry for help from a brother we must embrace rather than a judgmental fool who needs to be slapped because of his pointing finger.

I was sitting at Union Station, Portland, on a sweet vintage looking bench and this powder blue Volvo drives up. No joke, this gentlemen debarks, casually leaning on his bumper reading the morning paper. I was smitten.

I really tried to hold back. Truly. “Christa, do NOT go up and ask him about his car…Christa, sit down…”  Yea, so that didn’t last long. Bob and his newspaper soon became new friends and his family car, which I nicknamed George was scheduled for this shoot.

I won’t forget, right before the shoot, the light spilling through the window, haloing Bob and Roni enjoying a glass of lemonade on the top floor of Salty’s restaurant. I just stood watching them from the top step for a minute- they were so comfortable together. I’m not dating, I’m not looking – but I hope my future relationship has that air of quiet rest.

Bob and Roni, thank you for sharing your family’s car, it’s memories, and letting me witness the sweet, loving reassurance of a faithful marriage. You inspired me.

My particular dilemma has to do with hairstyles. Normally when I go out, I do a side-part retro-ish low bun. (think Debbie Reynolds Singin’ in the Rain)

I have a wedding to attend in a couple of weeks – I’ll be wearing a yellow linen sundress and I wanted a hairstyle that is a bit more modern where my hair could be left long. The main problem with that is my hair is waist length and all one length. (no style, layers, etc.) I’m kind of lost… Any tips or advice?

Dear Long Hair,

This is a common dilemma, you are not alone. The option I would suggest is doing part of your hair up and the rest down.   Opt for some volume at the crown, teasing hair slightly and securing with a baret or hair clasp. You can also opt for a messy pile as in the second look.

Final advice, own that long hair.  Yes, keep it tidy and healthy (cut off those wispy ends) but you can be chic with long locks easy enough. Don’t be afraid to try new ideas, new hair-parts and even (dare I say it) cutting in some layers for volume and movement.
